We bring the cold store closer to the farms
To prevent a loss of quality, fruit must be placed into the cold chain as soon as possible after harvesting. We are located about 600km closer to most northern region farms in relation to Durban, allowing the fruit to be placed into cold storage between 10 to 24 hours sooner (depending on congestion in Durban)! This has a significant impact on fruit quality.
Our mobile storage method
We store all the pallets of fruit in mobile racks, which minimises the movement of pallets within the cold store and reduces the risk of fruit damage.
We transport fruit using containers, not tautliners
Load shift or movement during the trip from the farm to Durban in tautliners harms the fruit and cartons. By loading the fruit into containers in Johannesburg, we significantly reduce the risk of damage to the fruit and cartons during the 600km trip to Durban.
Despatching fruit quickly
The longer fruit remains in a cold store, the less cost-effective the cold chain becomes, and fruit quality is also affected. Our systems allow our customers to work directly with us to move their fruit through the cold chain as quickly as possible. The cost benefits then flow back to our customers.
Rail facility coming soon
Enstra Cold store has a rail facility next to the cold store. We plan to have this rail facility operational from 2022, further reducing supply chain costs.
